A young family needed help in increasing the size of their historic bungalow home, so they reached out to Liz. They wanted the additions to be sensitive to the scale of the existing house and to protect the historic tulip poplar trees. The wife knew that pop-up additions are a traditional solution to adding extra space in bungalows. Liz designed a new staircase to the second floor, where a large family/ play room and new guest bathroom provided a place for the family to gather and connect to the outside through a new second story exterior porch, added over the existing sunroom on the first floor, creating a tree house type experience.
